For those of you who never had the pleasure or privilege of knowing Ralph Glover, he was an exceptional individual. He is remembered for his ready smile and positive attutide. A dedicated student and athlete, he lettered in football, and was a member of the wrestling team for four years. A state qualifier as a sophmore in 1977, he was inable to break into the varsity line-up in 1978 when coventry had what meny still feel was one of the strongest teams in Ohio history. He never complained...he never quit...and he never missed a practice. It all paid off in 1979 when he was a member of the State Championship team and he won a hard fought individual State Title that same year. In his thirteen years as a coventry student, he was NEVER tardy and NEVER missed a day of school...a record that has been matched by a few if any in Coventry.

After graduating in 1979 he attended the University Of Cincinnati on a wrestling scholarship and majored in Engineering. Two years later, when Cincinnati disbanded their wrestling program, he left college for financial reasons and joined the Marine Corp.,where he remained for the next twenty years. He served his country proudly at home, overseas and in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. During his time in the Marine Corp, he earned his college degree in Business from the National University in San Diego.

Retiring as a Master Sgt. in april of 2002, he took a job with the Department of Defense in Columbus, Ohio and began a new career. Finally settled in one place he and his wife began to build their dream home and he planned to enroll in the Masters Program at Ohio State University. In the mean time, he volunteered for, and was chosen to serve his country again in Kuwait where his job would have been setting up supply lines and aiding in their distribution to the troops currently serving in Iraq.

On December 12, 2002, just two days after his 41'st birthday all of of this ended. Ralph Glover was shot and killed in a senseless, attempt robbery ouside of his comlubus townhouse. It is the wish of his family and friends that his memory be honored yearly with an award to a Coventry Wrestler who best exemplifies his character, commitment , and courage. This award will be chosen by the wrestling staff with these qualities in mind. A plaque will hang permanently in the school and it is our hope that current and future Coventry Wrestlers will strive to achieve these characteristics in the hope of recieving this honor in his memory.
